The 11-county Detroit Region’s population reached  5,436,318—a 0.8% increase over the past five years. Three of the 11 counties saw a decline in population. The counties with the largest population growth include Livingston (+7.3%), Washtenaw (3.9%), and Oakland (3.7%). The counties with the largest decline include Genesee (-3.9%), Wayne (-2.2%), and Shiawassee (-1.9%). The City of Detroit remained Michigan’s most populous city but showed a continued decline in population of 11.6% since 2012.
